Thick black smoke traveling Southeast. There was an incident last year where it took almost an entire week to put out a cure in the same location. The smoke from this compost facility travels all the way to Kettleman city affecting those already burden by the pollution coming from Interstate5 and Hwy41.

Dust and Stench coming from landfill

There is lots of Dust coming from the Landfill. The wind has been blowing the smell of garbage all morning with no sign of the mister system turning on to help us with the smell or the dust.

There is a strong wind blowing the stench of garbage and dust into our side of the community (east). The mister system has not turned on and I was wondering why this is so. I went to the city to ask about this issues and I was told to call the landfill and ask them. I do not believe this is the way it should have been handled. They are also doing some work on the South west side of the landfill causing more dust to blow into our neighbor hood. Maybe this work should be done on a day with little wind.

@ 10 AM a community member living near the Landfill wanted to report a concern of the mister system no longer being used. He mentioned that the smells that have been coming from the Landfill have not been as strong but there are still days where the smells are terrible. It was also mentioned that there is still a huge amount of dust that is coming from the top of the hill and also from the bottom portion of where they are building berm. He felt that the mister system helped with the dust issue. The fact that most folks have gotten used to this smell does not mean its ok for them to turn off these misters. This portion of the community is closer to the landfill and still gets the shorter end of the deal when there are smells coming from the Landfill.
